Charities hit hard by Covid-19

Ffion Wynne

Charities say they have been catastrophically impacted by the coronavirus outbreak, following hundreds of cancelled fundraising events including the prestigious London Marathon. Charities rely on these events to bring in a significant percentage of their financial efforts.

Cardiff-based charity Bobath supports families of children suffering with cerebral palsy. The pandemic has mounted pressure upon its services, as their demand has increased but without any funds coming in.

They have been forced to provide therapy sessions over Zoom, having lost some of their physiotherapists to the NHS’s battle with Covid-19, whilst also having to manage new parents of babies born with the condition without being able to meet them.

However, the 2.6 challenge that was created in place of the London Marathon has offered charities like Bobath a chance to raise some money and provided a glimpse of hope.
