Teen speaks about feeling ‘vulnerable’ while holidaying on party island Ayia Napa

By Monde Mwitumwa

A young woman from Newport has told ITV News how she felt ‘vulnerable’ while on holiday with her friends in Ayia Napa.

Caitie Lake, 19,  went on her first holiday with her female friends in 2019.

She said she felt ‘vulnerable’ at times with men acting persistent towards her and her friends.

“There were some parts where you felt intimidated and uncomfortable", Caitie told ITV News.

“One of the girls - a group of men went up to her and wouldn’t leave her alone and it got to the point where she was trying to tell them to go away and they wouldn’t and she had to scream for people to help her”

Caitie didn’t report any of the incidents whilst on the holiday and says she was glad, after hearing that a British teenager was found guilty of lying about being gang-raped in Cyprus.

"It's budget on their  mind not safety, they get Ayia Napa in their heads because they have seen it at a cheap price or their friends have been before."

The Foreign Office website has given advice to British people traveling to destinations like Ayia Napa.

It said that female travellers should be ‘watchful’ as sexual assault can occur.

The advice is for all travellers to be alert, keep drinks in sight at all times, and avoid splitting from your friends.

National Apprenticeship week

Social Video and article

February Submission

To celebrate national apprenticeship week ITV Wales’ past and present apprentices share their stories on how they broke into the media industry.

All of their journeys are different and unique, from working in hospitality, retail and even a local chippy, they show how effective apprenticeships can be.

Here at ITV we encourage our apprentices to look beyond the outdated stereotypes surrounding apprenticeships, instead to acknowledge the diversity of opportunities and value that they bring.

By sharing their experiences and stories, they hope to shine an important light on their route into employment, the wide variety of career options that an apprenticeship opens up and the fantastic work that they’re doing here at ITV Wales.

Climate strike

March submission

Young climate strikers take to the streets of Cardiff yet again demanding even more attention to our climate. This was their first climate strike this year - after protesting through out last year in global climate strikes.

I followed the young strikers through Cardiff starting from City Hall in Cardiff Central all the way to Cardiff Bay outside the Senedd.

I spoke to two young women who shared how they felt about this issue and what they wanted to achieve from the strike.

Greta Thunberg has inspired many people to be more vocal about climate change. She started a global climate strike in just 18 months.

Greta took a visit over the bridge in Bristol just last month to join in one of the lastest  strikes.
